Thou Shalt Not Covet...

Is it just me or does conference ALWAYS seem like it could not come at a better time?!? I didn't get to listen to all the sessions as closely as I would have liked (thank goodness for DVR) but the talks that I did hear were just exactly the ones I needed to.

I thought I would share a somewhat personal little experience/ trial I have had lately in case anyone feels the same way, you can know that you are not alone...
Lately, I have been feeling pretty materialistic in thinking about all the things I do not have that I wish I did- for my home in particular.
Anyway- Saturday I decided to re-paint some old hand-me-down home decor items my mom had given me so they would match my decor. I begrudgingly started my task while watching conference thinking about how much easier it would be if I just got a credit card or a job and I could buy NEW stuff for my home. Just as I was contemplating all the things I could do if I just had endless amounts of credit, Elder Hales gave his wonderful talk about being wise with our finances, not coveting, not having excessive debt etc.

I had to just sit there and laugh OUT LOUD because it was so OBVIOUSLY directed at me. As I thought about what he said, I realized how grateful I am that Brian and I have never had a single credit card, that I am blessed to be able to stay home with my kids, and that I have a husband who works so hard to provide the necessities (and a luxury here and there) for his family.
My home is to say the least "my HUMBLE abode" but I would not trade that. I am so blessed to be home with my kids. I have come to be a firm believer in the old pioneer motto-

USE IT UP

WEAR IT OUT

MAKE IT DO

OR DO WITHOUT

Almost everything in my home is a hand-me-down or thrift store purchase or homemade or something. So- if any of you- as so many of us are at this time of economic uncertainty-are having a hard time finding the extra cash for all the trips to Tai-pan and RC Willey, know that you are not alone!!! And know that with a little thriftiness and creativity, you can still make your house a home!!! i will post some pics soon of all my little projects i worked on this weekend.
PS- one thing that has really helped me in decorating my home has been my vinyl lettering! I felt impressed to let you all know that I want to help all you make your house a home. If any of you want to brighten your home with some new vinyl, let me know and I will gladly give you 50% off the regular price! It can make such a big difference in your home and brighten your day!

OTHER TALKS I REALLY ENJOYED were...

Like I said- have not listened to them all yet, but those were the ones that stood out to me so far... I am sure there will be plenty more to add to the list!

To shine for him each day...

That's RIGHT!!! My baby graduated from Nursery. She was SO excited to come home and tell us all about her new teacher and friends. Her teacher even gave her JEWELRY- a "Make good choices" ring. She wore it all that day and had to show everyone. She was so proud of herself!!!
